Jobs To Be Done (JTBD)

A framework for understanding why people "hire" your product — focused on the underlying job, not the user demographics.

Definition

Jobs To Be Done is a way of thinking about products that flips the question from "what features should we build?" to "what job is the customer hiring our product to do?" Instead of describing customers as personas with traits, JTBD describes them by the goal they're trying to accomplish in a moment. The classic example: people don't buy a quarter-inch drill bit because they want a drill bit — they want a quarter-inch hole, or really a way to hang a picture, or really a way to make their home feel personal. AI agents can help you write job stories, run discovery interviews focused on the job, and translate jobs into product opportunities.
