Definition
A Product Requirements Document is the central spec a product team uses to align on what to build. A good PRD captures the user problem, the proposed solution, key requirements, success metrics, and open questions — without prescribing the implementation. PRDs replace ad-hoc Slack threads and one-off meetings, and let engineers, designers, and stakeholders see the same picture. Modern PRDs are usually short (one to three pages), focused on outcomes rather than features, and updated as discovery progresses. AI agents can draft, refine, and review PRDs from notes, customer interviews, and a few rough ideas — turning a couple of bullet points into a clean, complete document in minutes.
